Cafe of the Year Award for Ocean View in Pevensey Bay

The Ocean View Bakery and Restaurant in the Eastbourne Road, Pevensey Bay, is celebrating the New Year with the news that they they have been voted ‘Cafe of the Year’, by the readers of the Eastbourne Herald.

‘Talking today (4 January 2019) about the award, owner Katie Bundy, wearing a star studded ‘queen of the kitchen’ apron said she was ‘chuffed to bits’.

Outside on the Ocean View decking, sister, Kirsty, in answer to a comment from one of the patrons that ‘they all bloody deserved the award because of all the hard work and service and that fact that the place was so good” commented how pleased she was for sister Katie and how much the award meant to her.

Inside the Ocean Bakery at around 3:00pm, a lady found herself locked out of her car in the Sea Road car park, having shut the keys in her boot.

She was brought into the cafe in something of a state of shock, unsure what to do next.

Accompanied by two friends, one with two Scottie dogs, they explained that they had brought her into the cafe because she was in the state of (understandable) shock.

Within minutes three staff were on hand, a cup of tea was offered to the unfortunate lady.

Owner Katie came to see what she could do to help, explaining that ‘she was not to worry because they would find an answer’.

Self-proclaimed petrol head sister Kirsty, was there within minutes with a big suitcase toolbox, a retired police officer was on hand from an adjoining table to listen and offer advice.

No luck sadly, five minutes later, regular customer Neil arrived. He was on the phone to his colleague at the local garage straightaway, who was then on his way following the phone call.

As we got up to leave, the poor lady was still in a something of a state of shock, but seemed more calm.

Katie even knew the names of the Scottie dogs that were with the two friends who had brought the poor lady into the cafe to get help.

Ocean Bakery in Pevensey Bay, Eastbourne Herald Cafe of the Year 2018.

First day back at work for all the staff, Friday 4 January 2019. Not a bad start to the New Year.

This evening Katie posted the official announcement about winning the award on the Ocean View Facebook page.

In a heartfelt message she thanked all the people who had voted, and offered their support, “I would just to announce that we won the Herald’s cafe of the year competition. I would like to thank everybody who voted for us and who continues to support us everyday, lots of love from Katie & all the girls at ocean view ❤️”

As the popular bakery and cafe says in their promotional literature “”Katie and family welcome you, Open every day from 7:00am—4:00pm, supplying fresh bread and cakes and savouries. Serving homemade lunches, lite bites and childrens’ meals. Outside seating area, dog friendly”.

Possible help and emotional support for people locked out of their cars and in something of a state of shock, presumably comes at no extra charge.

The competition promoted by the Eastbourne Herald has made a direct connection with the communities that the newspaper serves.

Congratulations to the Ocean Bakery and Restaurant in Pevensey Bay with the winning of their award as cafe of year.
