WEALDEN COUNCIL: From Saturday 7 March to the end of April, we’re encouraging residents and visitors to the district to support Wealden businesses and buy local. With a number of regular farmers’ markets to choose from, there is plenty of fresh, seasonal and locally sourced produce to enjoy.

“We’re delighted to be working together with Wealden’s local producers and farming community to raise the profile of our local markets,” said Cllr Roy Galley, Cabinet Member for Economic Development.

“As well as supporting the local economy, residents and visitors can reap the many health benefits of eating locally produced food. Buying local also benefits the environment by cutting down on unnecessary plastic packaging and wasteful bulk buying.”

“We hope that by celebrating our local markets, this campaign will also help to attract new start-up businesses and stallholders to the district.”

Farmers’ markets full of local food, crafts and community interests, are taking place across the district on varying days. Find your nearest local market by visiting the Wealden website: www.wealden.gov.uk/localmarkets

The campaign also aims to attract new businesses with some markets offering discounted stalls to first-time traders. If this appeals to your business, contact David Chennell on 01323 443275 david.c.chennell@wealden.gov.uk
