Update
Daina Martin explained (29 August), “they were filming 2 x 30 second Barclays Bank commercials. They turned sandcastles into a Mediterranean villa and were behind on time due to the weather”.

CORRECTION:
We incorrectly reported that the filming of the commercial for Barclays Bank was related to a horse run on Pevensey Bay Beach on Saturday 31 August. This was not the case. The two events were unrelated, we aplogise for the error.

Speculation about the arrival of a film crew in Pevensey Bay today (28 August) was confirmed, as the Castle Inn car park was cordoned off, with the message ‘film crew only’ on part of the car park.

A big grey doubledecker is wedged in the space with security staff guiding people into various places. The insignia on the bottom of the bus reads wagontelevision.

Wagon films, based in Canterbury, is a creative and commercial video production for TV and online and advertising campaigns. Their clients include Next, Panasonic and Canon. Is this the company responsible for the commission today? Perhaps we are wide of the mark.

The pink arrow saying ‘Base’ is also a sign that film crews are in town, as directions are staged for vehicles to follow. At the head of Val Prinseps road are more pink signs with “TECH’ included in the staging instructions for vehicles to follow.

Does the filming involve some specific ‘TECH’ logistics?

Stories about the filming inolving a documentary, or a new strand of a series on television, are also doing the rounds in a number of hairdressers today.

Local resident, Jo Collins who runs on the Tides, a unique, local handcrafted sculptures business using driftwood, commented, “they were filming at the Sandcastle and started arriving at 8 this morning”.

Clearly we are about to see Pevensey Bay on this rather confused mixed grey and alternatively sunny day, changing hour by hour, starring in some production of some description, no doubt the next few hours will give us the reveal.
